Despite spending more than £142 million in the current transfer window, Sunderland is still trying to make some significant acquisitions.

The Black Cats want to recruit another center-back to their roster despite Daniel Ballard’s (25), recent and outstanding performance in the 3-0 thumping of West Ham.

And to cooperate with Ballard, not really to compete with him.

Despite being right-footed, Jenson Seelt (22) paired Dan on the left side during the Premier League’s first weekend. He later brought in Omar Alderete (28), who is in fact left-footed.

It looks like Sunderland is moving forward to get a left-footed center-back who can rival Alderete.

Il Resto del Carlino reports that Sunderland has made an offer to 27-year-old Bologna center-back Jhon Lucumi for a deal worth €3 million a season, or about £2.59 million (£54k a week).

The Colombian presently makes €800k (about £692.6k) a year, according to the cited publication, therefore if he were to move to the Premier League, his income would rise significantly.

The choice is entirely up to Bologna’s board, according to Il Resto del Carlino, since Lucumi plans to accept Sunderland’s offer.

The Serie A team is fighting because, after selling Sam Beukema (26), to Napoli, they would have to rely on a brand-new center-back combination if they let Jhon go.

Bologna has not yet accepted the offer, despite Sunderland having already placed Lucumi’s release clause on the table. In the upcoming days, we’ll see whether there are any more specific updates.

This summer, Jhon Lucumi was also connected to Leeds United, another recently promoted Premier League team, and teams like Juventus and Inter Milan.
